Description

Begonia "Illumination Apricot Shade" is a popular and promising series of tuberous trailing begonia varieties for pot cultivation. It grows up to 20–25 cm, forming a bushy, attractive plant with long shoots and many smooth, bright green leaves. During flowering, the plant is covered with large, double inflorescences of various shades, which retain their appeal for a long time. Trailing begonia looks luxurious in spacious planters and garden pots, as it quickly spreads in width and easily fills the free space in the planting container. Such a plant can transform a landscape design or green up a balcony, terrace, or loggia.

Planting begins already in late winter or early spring — in February–March, tubers can be germinated, and with the onset of stable warmth (April–May), the plant is taken outdoors or planted in containers. The tuber is placed in a loose, nutritious, and well-drained substrate, laying it concave side up. Initially, it is not completely submerged, but after sprouts appear, it is carefully covered with soil, bringing the planting depth to 3–5 cm. A mandatory condition is good drainage to avoid waterlogging.

For cultivation, choose a bright spot with diffused lighting or light partial shade — direct sun can damage delicate leaves and flowers. The soil should remain moderately moist: watering should be regular, but without overwatering, as begonia is sensitive to moisture stagnation. During active growth and flowering, the plant is fed every 10–14 days with fertilizers for flowering crops with an increased content of potassium and phosphorus.
