Description

Berberis x frikartii "Amstelveen" - is a spectacular evergreen or semi-evergreen ornamental shrub with a dense, spreading crown, shiny dark green foliage, and abundant bright yellow blooms. The plant maintains an attractive appearance for most of the year and is perfect for single and group plantings, hedges, and decorative garden compositions.

The bush forms numerous densely arranged, slightly arching shoots. The leaves are small, leathery, glossy, and a rich dark green color. Depending on the climate and severity of winter, some of the foliage may remain on the plant until spring.

"Amstelveen" is especially decorative during its flowering period. In spring, a large number of small, bright yellow flowers appear on the branches, effectively contrasting with the dark green foliage. The main flowering period is in May, sometimes starting already in late April.

An adult bush usually reaches about 1–1.5 m in height and approximately 1–1.5 m in width. The crown is dense, rounded-spreading. The plant tolerates formative pruning well, so its size can be controlled if necessary.

A sunny location or light partial shade is suitable for planting. Barberry thrives in fertile, moderately moist, and well-drained soils. After rooting, it is quite resistant to short droughts. Areas with constant waterlogging should be avoided.

Berberis × frikartii "Amstelveen" looks good among conifers, ornamental shrubs, and perennials. Thanks to its dense, thorny shoots, it can also be used to create dense decorative and protective hedges.
