Description
Crocus chrysanthus "Gipsy Girl" is a charming botanical crocus that is one of the first to adorn the garden with vibrant colors in early spring. The variety attracts attention with an unusual combination of shades: the inner side of the petals is colored a sunny yellow, while the outer side is adorned with expressive dark purple stripes. This contrasting combination makes the flowers particularly spectacular and noticeable in flower beds, rock gardens, and lawns.
The plant is characterized by its compact size and early flowering. Narrow green leaves beautifully highlight the brightness of the flowers, and transparent scales on the stem give the plant a characteristic botanical appearance. The height of the crocus is about 8 cm. Flowering begins in March.
Planting. Soils for planting can be any, but they must be well-drained. Crocuses do not grow in acidic soils. Choose a sunny or semi-shady spot for planting. Crocuses look good in groups in borders, rockeries, and on lawns. You can create whimsical patterns with them. Crocus bulbs are planted from September to late December. Prepare the soil for planting in advance. Loosen it to a depth of up to 30 cm, then add compost. Since bulbs are too sensitive to moisture, they can be planted in sand. To do this, dig a hole with a flat bottom and a size, for example, 5 cm wide and 30 cm long. Then pour a thin layer of sand around the entire perimeter, no more than 2 cm high. Place the bulbs on top of the sand, with the pointed ends facing up. Then carefully fill the hole with earth, without compacting it. The planting depth should be equal to two heights of the bulb. The planting distance between bulbs is 3 to 10 cm.
Care. Crocuses are undemanding in care. They do not need watering. They have enough moisture in the soil after the snow melts. Fresh manure is contraindicated for crocuses. Every 4-5 years, crocus "nests" need to be divided. If necessary, flowering crocuses can be transplanted (with a clod of earth).

Checking the order took only a few minutes. The labels made it easy to sort the plants before planting. That was enough to leave a good first impression.

Of all my crocuses, the very first one in the garden has sprouted and bloomed. Everything is still gray, and yet it already delights the eye.
