Description

Crocus vernus "Jeanne d'Arc" - these miniature perennial crocuses impress with their splendor and richness of flowering, which is why they are so popular and loved by florists. Beautiful flowers appear with the first warm days and bring a spring mood.

Appearance and fragrance

Crocus Jeanne d'Arc belongs to the large-flowered group and is considered one of the best among varieties with white coloration. Slight lilac veins are visible on the slightly rounded petals. The pistils are colored bright orange. The leaves are narrow, elongated, form from the corm and have a dark green color with a white stripe in the middle.

Planting. Soils for planting can be any, but they must be well-drained. Crocuses do not grow on acidic soils. The planting site is chosen sunny or partial shade. Crocuses look great in groups in borders, on rockeries, on lawns. You can create intricate patterns from them. Crocus bulbs are planted from September to December. The soil for planting is prepared in advance. It is loosened to a depth of 30 cm, then compost is added. Since bulbous plants are too sensitive to moisture, they can be planted in sand. To do this, dig a hole with a flat bottom and a size, for example, 5 cm wide and 30 cm long. Then pour a thin layer of sand along the entire perimeter, no more than 2 cm high. Place the bulbs on top of the sand, pointed ends up. Then carefully fill the hole with earth, without tamping it down. The planting depth should be equal to two bulb heights. The distance between bulbs when planting is from 3 to 10 cm.

Care. Crocuses are undemanding in care. They do not need to be watered. They have enough moisture in the soil after the snow melts. Fresh manure is contraindicated for crocuses. Every 4-5 years, "nests" of crocuses need to be divided. If necessary, flowering crocuses can be transplanted (with a clod of earth).
