Description

Hyacinthus "Blue Jacket" is an early-flowering variety of the Blue Jacket hyacinth. This plant can be used to decorate both indoor spaces and green areas.

Appearance and Fragrance
A large number of buds unfold on the actively growing dense stem. Each smells of sweetness and a slight tartness, as if perfume has been applied over a luxurious jacket. The deep blue color, filling the base of the petals, is as if accentuated by white cuffs along the edge. This hyacinth's "trousers" - light green sword-shaped leaves - complete the outfit.

  • Flowering period: March-April.
  • Height: 20-30 cm.
  • Flower diameter: 1–5 cm.
  • Flower shape: bell-shaped.
  • Color: blue.

Planting (Blue Jacket Hyacinth)
Hyacinths are planted in open soil or in containers. Fertile, well-drained, non-acidic soil is suitable; the location should be sunny or lightly shaded, protected from wind. Before planting, organic and mineral fertilizers are applied.

  • Planting times: September-December.
  • Depth: 10-15 cm, spacing: 15-20 cm.
  • Large bulbs – for forcing, medium – for open soil (they are more resistant).

Drainage is essential in containers (holes + drainage layer). Potting mix: turf, compost soil, sand or peat. The pot should be slightly larger than the bulb.

For forcing, large healthy bulbs (from 5 cm) are used. First, they are kept in a dark, cool place; after leaves appear – in a cool, shaded place; after buds – in a bright place. After flowering, they are planted in open soil.

Care
Bulbs can be left in the ground, but it is better to dig them up after flowering. Inflorescences are cut, leaves are left to nourish the bulb. After the leaves dry (early summer), the bulbs are dug up, dried, and stored in a dry place (peat, sawdust). Without digging, they grow for up to 3 years.

Watering – during the growing period, approximately twice a week without overwatering or drying out. Potted plants require regular feeding.
