Description

Ipheion uniflorum is a charming low-growing bulbous plant, known as "Spring Starflower". It is valued for its early and prolonged flowering, delicate honey scent, and ease of care. Compact bushes, 15–30 cm tall, form neat flowering carpets, ideal for rockeries, borders, containers, and the front of flower beds.

In spring, from April to June, the plant is covered with solitary star-shaped flowers up to 3 cm in diameter. The color can be white, blue, or delicate purple. Narrow glaucous-green leaves have a light garlic scent when rubbed.

Ipheion prefers sunny areas or light partial shade, and grows well in fertile, well-drained, and moderately moist soils. The plant is distinguished by good winter hardiness; however, light covering is recommended in harsh winters. Thanks to its long flowering period and natural beauty, ipheion will become an effective decoration for the spring garden.
