Description

Ipheion uniflorum "Alberto Castillo’ is a popular bulbous perennial valued for its large, snow-white star-shaped flowers with delicate greenish veins and a sweet, gentle fragrance. This compact plant, 10–25 cm tall, looks spectacular in rockeries, borders, containers, and at the front of flower beds, forming neat, dense clumps.

Flowering begins in early spring – from March or April – and continues until May. The 2–4 cm diameter flowers have a greenish-yellow center and bloom especially abundantly in sunny areas. Narrow grassy leaves form a dense decorative cushion.

Ipheion ‘Alberto Castillo’ is unpretentious in care and overwinters well in open ground with good drainage. It prefers sunny locations or light partial shade, as well as fertile, well-drained soils without waterlogging. Bulbs are planted in autumn at a depth of 6–10 cm, leaving about 10 cm between plants.

Care is minimal: moderate watering and removal of faded flowers are sufficient. To maintain decorativeness, the clumps are recommended to be divided every 3–4 years.
