Description

Iris reticulata "Blue Planet" is a miniature early-flowering bulbous iris that is one of the first to adorn the garden with the vibrant colors of spring. This elegant variety is ideal for rockeries, borders, container planting, and early forcing. Flowering begins in April–May, when large flowers for such a compact plant, about 6–8 cm in diameter, open above the narrow green leaves. The petals are painted in a delicate sky-blue shade, and the lower falls are decorated with an expressive yellow-orange spot with dark veins and speckles, which gives the flowers special decorative appeal.

The plant reaches only 20–30 cm in height, maintaining a neat compact form. Iris "Blue Planet" is highly winter-hardy and suitable for cultivation in USDA Zone 4, withstanding frosts down to −34 °C. For abundant flowering, it prefers sunny, wind-protected areas with loose, well-drained soil of neutral or slightly acidic reaction (pH 6–7). Bulbs are planted in autumn, avoiding water stagnation. The variety is unpretentious in care, grows well over time, and annually delights with spectacular early spring flowering.
