Description
The ‘Jostaberry’ is a berry jostaberry with a recognizable garden form and ornamental value that unfolds differently throughout the season. Deciduous green foliage emphasizes the natural seasonal rhythm and creates a calm background for flowering or fruiting. Flowering occurs in spring and early summer; the main shade of the flowers is «White / light, typical for the culture». The plant forms edible fruits; the color of the fruits is «Dark / reddish-dark»; ripening usually lasts from June to August.
For harmonious development, it is important to select conditions close to the natural requirements of the plant. Optimal lighting — sun or partial shade. Soil — fertile, well-drained. Watering — moderate. Frost resistance — very high, usually up to −25…−35 °C.
In the landscape, the variety easily works both as an independent accent and as part of a more complex composition. Best use scenarios — fruit garden, berry patch, edible hedge; compact varieties — containers. The main advantages of ‘Jostaberry’ are edible harvest, extended fruiting period, self-fertility, very high winter hardiness, and suitability for container cultivation. To maintain its shape, it is sufficient to adhere to the following pruning scheme: annual thinning and rejuvenation; remove the oldest branches. Pollination feature — self-fertile in most varieties; cross-pollination can increase yields.
