Description

Narcissus "Sir Winston Churchill" is a double-flowered variety that creates a spectacular show in the garden. Impressive large flowers with several layers of brilliant yellow petals inside. The flower stalk grows up to 40 cm in height. Flowers are large: about 6 cm in diameter. Each flower stem produces 4 flowers. The perianth and other segments are in several whorls, white; the outer whorl is very wide. The perianth segments are wide, waxy in texture, overlapping by half or more. The flowers are strongly scented. The leaves are blue-green and linear.

It requires well-lit areas protected from strong winds. Requires good drainage. It can also grow in partial shade under tree canopies. For a greater effect, it is best planted in groups. Suitable for multi-colored beds, mixed flowerbeds, used for borders and rockeries. Cultivated in pots, tubs, and window boxes. In the landscape, it looks great with hyacinths, tulips, muscari, crocuses, daisies, and forget-me-nots. Ideal for obtaining high-quality cut flowers and suitable for forcing.

It has a long flowering period (up to three weeks). Spent flowers should be removed promptly, and leaves left until they wither naturally. Bulbs can be left undisturbed in open ground, where they will form large clumps after several years. This variety is frost-hardy. However, plants grown in pots require protection from cold.
