Rhododendron catawbiense "Nova Zembla" is an evergreen, profusely flowering shrub, unique in summer with its dark green leaves, creating a background for other plants, and in summer, it delights with the splendor of ruby-red flowers with a violet-brown speckle and golden stamens. This plant will be a decoration for your home collection of ornamental plants.

Form: Dense, broad, spreading, strongly branched shrub (see photo).

Size: The height of an adult plant reaches 200-250cm, width about 200cm.

Shoots: Young shoots are green and flexible; they lignify with age.

Bark: Gray, covered with black scales.

Root: Flat, superficial root system.

Leaves: large (16 cm long), elliptical, leathery, dark green on top and gray underneath.

Flowers: Ruby-red with violet-brown speckles inside and golden stamens, large (4.5-6 cm in diameter, collected in compact inflorescences of 10-12 pcs).

Soil type: Fresh, well-drained, sandy loam, acidic or acidified soils.

Planting: The best place for planting rhododendrons is the north-eastern side of your house. For Rhododendron to grow well, before planting, we recommend freeing the soil from weeds, especially perennial ones. There is no need to use expensive fertilizers; we can use chernozem or any healthy, humus-fertilized, dark meadow/garden soil. It is advisable to buy seedlings in a plastic container with prolonged (long-acting) fertilizers – the plant is not subjected to digging with inevitable damage to the root system, and after planting, they are guaranteed to take root.

The rhododendron arrived well packed, like all the products from Po. The plant is alive and beautiful. I planted it and will observe its development. So far, everything is fine.

The plant recovered from the journey soon after unpacking. The plant adjusted to normal light gradually. It gave me confidence that the order had been checked.

I was particularly interested in Rhododendron catawbiense "Nova Zembla". The planting material looked fresh when I opened the box. I found no obvious weak point while unpacking it.
