Description

Scilla siberica "Alba" — is an elegant early spring bulbous perennial that embodies the tenderness and purity of a spring garden. The variety attracts attention with its snow-white star-shaped flowers, collected in compact clusters of 3–15 pieces. Narrow petals with a slight sheen create the effect of glowing stars, beautifully rising on thin, strong peduncles. The plant belongs to the group of small-bulb spring ephemeroids and is distinguished by rapid growth, good frost resistance, and unpretentiousness. The plant height is 10–20 cm. The leaves are broadly linear, basal, appear simultaneously with flowering and retain their decorative appeal throughout the spring. Flowers up to 5 cm in diameter have a pure white color with delicate bluish stamens. Flowering begins in March and continues in April, filling the garden with a light, fresh aroma characteristic of the first spring flowers.
Planting. Prefers semi-shaded locations. Snowdrops prefer loose soil, which includes organic-rich soil, leaf mold. If possible, add forest soil with bark and leaves to the garden soil for planting. The soil should be slightly moist. Waterlogging should not be allowed. The soil should be light and well-draining. The planting depth should not be more than 5-6 cm. And the distance between the flowers should be slightly more, about 10 cm. Care. It is necessary to fertilize with mineral substances: potassium, phosphorus, and nitrogen. In autumn, it is better to fertilize with granulated or slow-release fertilizers, and in spring with liquid ones. Snowdrops can also be left unfertilized, but in this case, the plant will be weak, and flowering will not be as lush. Water during drought. A snowdrop can grow in one place for more than 5 years.
