Deciduous Azalea "Golden Lights" is a bright accent for a spring garden, capable of transforming a plot into a true golden cloud of blossoms. This medium-sized shrub, neat and harmonious, is literally covered with large, funnel-shaped flowers of a rich yellow hue with soft golden-orange transitions during its blooming period. The inflorescences open profusely, often even before the foliage appears, creating the effect of a glowing bush, filled with warmth and a sunny mood. A light, barely perceptible fragrance adds special charm to the plant. It grows best in acidic, light, sandy, well-drained soils in partial shade. It tolerates well-drained humic loams. It prefers sunny dappled shade or high open partial shade. Leaves can burn in full sun. Acidify soils before and after planting if necessary. Shallow, fibrous root systems (do not cultivate around shrubs). A good mulch (wood chips, bark, or pine needles) is best for retaining moisture, stabilizing soil temperature, and winter protection. Poor drainage inevitably leads to root rot, so raised beds/plantings should be considered on heavy clay soils. Roots should never be allowed to dry out. If possible, prune spent inflorescences immediately after flowering. Slowly naturalizes by root suckers.
