Deciduous Azalea "Klondyke" is a deciduous shrub of the heather family. Deciduous azaleas are probably among the most beautiful of their kind – their colors are usually bright and fresh, and among them are quite rare shades. The Klondyke variety, named after the famous Klondyke region – the home of the gold rush, is distinguished by a golden hue of petals unusual for rhododendrons. The variety was bred in 1991 in Germany. Its buds have orange speckles, but when the flower opens, its petals inside are a uniform yellow-golden color. When in bloom, they open completely, and the fresh sweet scent of these flowers attracts bees and other insects. In contrast to the bright, light flowers, the leaves of this variety have a deep dark green-purple rich color, which creates an interesting decorative effect. The inflorescences of the Klondyke azalea variety consist of 7-10 large flowers, about 5 cm in diameter. Hybrid Azalea Klondyke, like evergreens, loves acidic soil rich in nutrients, but unlike other varieties, Klondyke needs full sun. Regular watering is necessary, as the plant does not tolerate drought.
