Description
«Diamant Rouge» is a decorative hydrangea: a spectacular garden plant that can add depth, character, and a sense of completeness to a composition. Its deciduous green foliage forms a fresh crown during the season, and in autumn adds new shades to the composition. Flowering continues from July to October; as the inflorescences open and mature, the color palette changes according to the scheme «White → bright red». When mature, the plant usually reaches 1.4–1.6 m in height and about 1.2–1.5 m in width, so its future scale is easy to consider when planning planting.
The beauty of the variety is especially well manifested where lighting, soil, and humidity are selected considering its characteristics. Optimal lighting – sun or partial shade; in a hot place, partial shade is preferable. Soil – fertile, moisture-retaining, well-drained; slightly acidic–neutral. Watering – regular; the soil is kept uniformly moist without waterlogging. Frost resistance – very high, usually up to −25…−30 °C.
In a composition, the plant helps create an expressive structure and maintain interest in the planting throughout the season. The best use scenarios are solitaire, group, border, decorative hedge, large container. The main advantages of «Diamant Rouge» are continuous flowering, spectacular change of shades, very high winter hardiness, suitability for container cultivation, and the possibility of using it in a hedge. To maintain its shape, it is enough to adhere to the following pruning scheme: in spring; blooms on current year's shoots.
