Azalea japonica "Kermesina" - This is a beautiful, compact, and dense shrub with a flattened spherical, semi-spherical crown shape. It is a slow-growing variety, meaning that at 10 years of age, it grows to approximately 50 cm in height and almost twice that in width. The medium-sized leaves are rich green, elliptical, leathery, yellowish in autumn, and semi-evergreen. The flowers are gathered in small inflorescences of 7-10 pieces, petals are two-colored, pink with a white border. It blooms in May-June.
Plant in partial shade, a quiet and wind-protected place. It tolerates direct sunlight poorly. Prefers well-drained, fertile (rich in humus), acidic soils with a pH of 3.5-4. The application of specialized fertilizers for azaleas has a good effect on its development. Abundant watering is needed during dry periods. For winter (in November), the plant is covered with mulch and a frame covered with agro-fabric is placed over it. It tolerates formative pruning well, which is carried out in early June immediately after flowering, because the azalea begins to lay flower buds for the next season.
