Description
Juniperus x pfitzeriana "Old Gold" - is a striking evergreen coniferous shrub with a wide spreading crown and expressive golden-yellow needles. The variety is valued for its bright coloration, neat shape, and unpretentiousness. It retains its decorative appearance all year round and is perfectly suited for creating contrasting compositions in the garden.
The crown is dense, wide, and spreading, with numerous horizontally arranged and slightly raised shoots. Thanks to this structure, the plant forms a beautiful multi-tiered silhouette. Young growths look especially effective — they have a rich golden-yellow hue, while the inner part of the bush remains yellow-green.
"Old Gold" grows relatively slowly and maintains a compact form well. An adult bush usually reaches about 1–1.5 m in height and 2–2.5 m in width. Thanks to its wide crown, the plant fills space well and can be used as a bright accent in coniferous groups.
To achieve the most intense golden color, it is recommended to plant the juniper in a sunny location. Light partial shade is acceptable, but in insufficient light, the needles become greener. The variety prefers light, moderately moist, and well-drained soils; it does not tolerate prolonged waterlogging.
After rooting, the plant is quite resistant to drought periods and does not require complex care. Young seedlings are recommended to be watered regularly after planting. High frost resistance allows the variety to be successfully grown in the climatic conditions of Ukraine.
Particularly beautiful Juniperus × pfitzeriana «Old Gold» looks among decorative stones, in rockeries, along paths, and against a lawn. The golden needles contrast magnificently with blue and dark green junipers, pines, thujas, ornamental grasses, and flowering perennials.
