Description

Rhododendron hybrid "Polarnacht" - is a decorative evergreen shrub, bred in Germany, which will become a real adornment of any garden. This variety features a compact, rounded crown and dense growth, reaching 1.5 m in height. The leaves are large, dark green, leathery and glossy, which gives the plant an elegant appearance throughout the year. 'Polarnacht' blooms from May to June with large inflorescences, each containing up to 14 flowers. The corrugated petals have a rich purple color with black-purple speckles, creating a striking contrast. The flowers, 6-7 cm in diameter, have a delicate but unobtrusive aroma. Key characteristics of Rhododendron 'Polarnacht':
  • Height of an adult bush: up to 1.5m.
  • Flowering: May-June.
  • Flowers: rich purple color, 6-7 cm in diameter, gathered in large inflorescences.
  • Leaves: dark green, glossy, up to 11 cm long.
  • Frost resistance: up to -24°C.
The plant tolerates Ukrainian frosts well, however, it is recommended to mulch the root zone in autumn for additional protection. For better growth of the rhododendron, a semi-shaded place with acidic, well-drained soil should be provided.
