Description
Thuja occidentalis 'Smaragd' is a popular evergreen variety with a dense, symmetrical narrow-conical crown and bright emerald-green needles that retain their rich color in winter.
An adult plant reaches 4–6 m in height and 1–1.5 m in width. The annual growth is about 10–20 cm in height and 4–5 cm in width. The variety is highly frost-resistant and tolerates winter conditions well.
It grows best in sun or light partial shade. It prefers fertile, moderately moist and well-drained soil with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. After planting, it needs regular watering; adult plants primarily need watering during dry periods. It tolerates shaping pruning well, although it naturally retains a neat conical shape.
