Picea glauca "Sander's Blue" is a compact, slow-growing coniferous variety with a very dense, regular conical crown and striking silvery-blue needles. Thanks to its neat silhouette and unusual coloration, the plant is decorative all year round and is well-suited for both small gardens and modern landscape compositions.

The crown is dense, symmetrical, and narrowly conical. Numerous short shoots are very densely arranged, so the plant maintains a neat shape with virtually no formative pruning. In appearance, the variety resembles the popular "Conica" spruce, but differs in its significantly more pronounced bluish coloration.

The needles are short, thin, and dense, having an attractive bluish-green, glaucous, or silvery-blue hue. New growth in spring is particularly bright and stands out well against the more mature needles. The intensity of the blue coloration can depend on lighting and growing conditions.

"Sander's Blue" belongs to slow-growing varieties. In garden conditions, a mature plant usually reaches about 1.5–2 m in height, and with age, under favorable conditions, can grow up to 2.5–3 m. The crown width is approximately 0.8–1.2 m. The average annual growth is about 5–10 cm.

For planting, it is recommended to choose a sunny spot or light partial shade. With sufficient light, the crown remains dense, and the blue coloration of the needles is most pronounced. It is advisable to protect the plant from strong drying winds.

The spruce prefers fertile, moderately moist, loose, and well-drained soil. Young plants after planting require regular watering. Neither prolonged drying out of the soil nor waterlogging near the roots should be allowed. Mulching helps maintain stable soil moisture.

In early spring, young specimens should preferably be protected from intense sun, as the needles can suffer from sunburn and desiccation when the soil is frozen.

Picea glauca "Sander's Blue" looks excellent in single plantings, rockeries, alpine gardens, and mixed coniferous groups. The blue needles combine particularly effectively with golden thujas, green junipers, decorative stones, barberries, and groundcover plants.
